Albert and Gage e-newsletter August 2007

Albert & Gage:  We're heading up to New Mexico and Colorado this month, to play some gigs and check in with family and friends.   Most of our energy is going to the remodel of the new MoonHouse Studio space, but we're looking forward to some miles in the truck taking in the beauty of the mountains.

MoonHouse Studio:  MoonHouse Studio is in transition...the only music at the new location is the sound of hammers and saws, but everyday brings us closer to the move.  Meanwhile, this month Chris begins work here on a project with Lissa Hattersley (of Greezy Wheels fame) and mixes a cool new CD for "Austin Homegrown".  Then we'll make the switch and continue work on Abi Tapia's music, Christine's new French CD, "Paris, Texafrance", and welcome Craig Calvert.

MoonHouse Records:  The DVD "Red Willow Band Reunion & Retrospective" is available now through MoonHouse Records.  It's a 3 DVD set with 'then and now' performances by Chris's still beloved band from the 70's - Red Willow Band -  plus interviews and special bonus material.   The companion CD, Red Willow Band "Reunion!", is also available.   The CD and DVD feature highlights of the band's reunion concert in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in September 2006.

...a note from Christine...

What a month.  Our vision sounded so simple - we'll raise these ceilings, move this wall, add these studio windows and voila!  A perfect creative space.  Four weeks later we're up to our eyeballs in electrical, plumbing, insulation, carpentry, stain, paint, flooring, doors, windows, a/c installation...luckily we are surrounded by gifted experts in all of these areas, who are manifesting our vision for us while we scramble to make the timing work out and help whenever we can.  My forte is cleaning up and scheduling - hauling old sheetrock and lumber out to the demo pile and getting on the phone to arrange the next phase.  The moon continues to be with us.  The July full moon lead us to the perfect grand piano - but Chris will probably want to tell you about that.
I had this fantasy about continuing work on the new French CD while we managed the remodeling project.  Not only do we not have the time, we don't have any extra room in our brains, so that recording and release are being pushed back a bit.  I'm seeing that this is a very creative and demanding process that we're riding for a few months.  But, the good news is, now I'll get to sing those songs in the new place and with that wonderful piano!  Watch for a springtime CD release. "April in Paris, Texafrance" sounds good!
     See you around the planet.

Quote of the Month

"Dreams that do come true can be as unsettling as those that don't."
Brett Butler from 'Knee Deep in Paradise'

...and a note from Chris...

Oh, so she'll let me tell you about the Bechstein grand piano that was built in Berlin in 1897.  Well, it's a beautiful instrument that has been in the care of the same beautiful people for the last 50 years.  We sat down to play it a bit and the first notes just jumped out of the piano.  Once again the stars line up in a wonderful way.  I wish the same for each and every one of you.  Special thanks to Dale Dingley for hooking us up with Phil and Jeannie.  The Bechstein website is here, and you can click on the thumbnail pic if you want to see more.

"I am simply very fortunate about the fact that a God was standing next to my work bench during the beginning of my career."  C. Bechstein

Meanwhile, I'm at work in the home studio with Lissa Hattersley, Abi Tapia and Austin Homegrown.  Then it will be time to solder up some new patchbays and move the whole shebang about a mile to the West.
See you at the gig (or studio session).
     Chris
