Albert and Gage e-newsletter February 2008

Albert and Gage:  We have been very busy being record producers and business owners and will continue to do so.  Christine's role as Trustee from Texas on The Recording Academy National Board of Governors will take us to LA to attend The Grammy's and several other soirees celebrating the 50th anniversary of the awards.  Yes, Chris in a tux, Christine in a gown. Attending a dinner honoring Aretha Franklin is one of the highlights we are looking forward to.  We will also head to Memphis for The Folk Alliance Conference to spread the word about our new studio, MoonHouse Records, our new MoonHouse artist Abi Tapia (see below), the upcoming "Paris, Texafrance" CD and of course, Albert and Gage.

Christine's annual Valentine's French Show is always a highlight of the year.  Please join us at The Cactus - the premier listening room in Austin.  This year we have a great band with Floyd Domino joining us for the first time on piano and Paul Glasse returning on mandolin.

MoonHouse Studio:  The studio has really been in full swing this month.  Abi Tapia's CD is almost wrapped up and French music has filled our wonderful new space the last couple of weeks.  It has been gratifying to open the doors and welcome Hotcakes, David Carroll on upright bass, Eddie Cantu on drums, Paul Glasse on mandolin, Shawn Sanders on cello, Buzz Evans on beautiful pedal steel and the harmonies of Bill Small.  Chris, of course, sits surrounded by a potpourri of instruments and drives the train from command central - his control room.

MoonHouse Records:  MoonHouse Records is proud to announce that we will be releasing Abi Tapia's "The Beauty in the Ruin" this spring.  Abi is the kind of artist that we are thrilled to align with - heartfelt, smart, focused, genuine and oh yes, talented!  Her new songs are great and she and Chris have created a beautiful record.  Christine Albert's "Paris, Texafrance" will be released in April, so the MoonHouse Records office will be buzzing the next couple of months.  Find all of our current music at www.moonhouserecords.com.  Check out the complete listening system - you can hear a sample of every song from every CD.  It's very user friendly.  And remember, much of our catalog is available at iTunes as well.

...a note from Christine...

I'm not sure how the stars are lined up right now, but it must be powerful.  Our life has kicked into gear and kept us on a whirlwind for months.  It is everything we can do to keep up, but every project feels important and valuable so we nurture it all.
Swan Songs has organized some sweet concerts recently and we also hired a part-time employee to help with administration and outreach.  Donna Belk is an angel sent to us at the perfect time!  My new mantra is "delegate" and Donna is a great partner.  She has not only taken much of the responsibility but has done it with style and efficiency.  This will be an important year for Swan Songs - I can feel it coming.
Here at A&G and MoonHouse headquarters we have hired Leslie Flynn, who is helping keep all the balls in the air. Along with Cat Reynolds, who has been our "remote" office for years, we are creating a team that can create the balance that is sometimes elusive in our hectic world.  I'd like to channel my efforts in to more big picture, creative thinking and entrust the details to these smart women.  That can be hard for a Virgo!  We take pride in our multitasking and organizing chops.
The quote of the month from Mr. Jung seems appropriate for Valentine's month.  There was definitely a chemical reaction when I met Chris Gage and the transformation continues everyday.
Love is alive at The MoonHouse.  I hope it is at your house too.
     Christine

Quote of the Month
"The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed."
Carl Jung
Swiss psychologist (1875 - 1961)

...and a note from Chris...

Boy, she gets off in her 'meditation and manifestation' corner and all heck breaks loose.  She's conjured up record deals, lawyers, publishers, interns, employees, partners, you name it.  I'm not complaining, I love a good project (it keeps me away from the TV, where I'm prone to watch 'Design on a Dime' till all hours of the morning).
Check out this month's pic of the month...I've put together a couple 'before and after' photographs of the new studio space.  Yesterday our good friend Terry Smith came over and took some professional photos of the place, so we'll be getting some promo material put together that we can share with anyone who's interested.
The first shake down cruise in the new studio was a doozy - Craig Calvert brought in his band "Hotcakes" to record some fun rock and roll for an exercise DVD for young folks.  We had a five piece rock band hammering out faithful versions of "La Bamba", "I Love Rock and Roll", and a quite funky version of "The Hokey Pokey".  Really.  Drummer Joe Resnick put the drum room to the test, and despite finding a few loose connections, I managed to make it all work.  We tested our soundproofing the other day as jackhammers broke up the street outside as Eddie Cantu played sensitive jazz drums.  (I give our soundproofing efforts a B - you can't silence big trucks and jackhammers, but I challenge anyone to hear noises on the recordings!)
     See you at the gig.
     Chris
