August 2010
Greetings from the MoonHouse in lovely south
Austin, Texas

| Albert and Gage
are staying close to Austin this summer. We enjoy
the heat...?... Anyway, there's a show this month at a
new Austin venue for us, the New World Deli -
we've heard great reports from fellow artists.
Please come see us there and help make it special.
We're back at the legendary Gruene Hall on Sunday
afternoon August 15. It's always a fun afternoon
and we end up pulling lots of old country tunes out of
our Levi's pockets. The trusty gigs are still in
place - Chris every Monday at Donn's Depot,
Albert and Gage first Wednesday at Donn's Depot,
and Christine's Second Wednesday at Artz Ribhouse.
We'll be touring in the fall, so try to come hang with
us during August.

| MoonHouse Studio
is getting a backyard makeover...new fence all around,
trees trimmed and a sidewalk running around the building
to get to Studio B without going through the mud.
We're very blessed to have our friends Lisa and Mark
"land banking" with a corner lot and allowing us to
pursue our recording adventures. This month Chris
is finishing up a simple but lovely Cowboy Johnson CD,
Casey Yeager's debut release, continuing to whittle on
Sarah Smith's first record, and has an opportunity to
work on the soundtrack for a PBS film called "Texas
Olive Trails." The studio has its own website
as well...

If you
missed it last month here's a repost:
We are very proud that
Christine Albert's French Show has been approved
for inclusion on the new
Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) Texas Touring Roster
for the Sept 2010 - August 2012 season. So, if you know of a
school, non-profit, etc that would like to host Ms.
Albert's French Show, please keep this in mind.
The deadline for
Arts Respond Performance Support Grants performances
occurring December 15, 2010 - March 14, 2011 is November
1, 2011. (Insider tip - you can also apply for funding
for an A&G show through Christine's account, since
Christine is the Albert in Albert and Gage!)
|
|
The TCA provides grants to arts presenters, schools,
libraries, theaters and other non-profits throughout
Texas to help with the cost of bringing in artists from
the roster. |

blog - "As Grows the Garden"
an experiment in making a commitment to
something for no other reason than to satisfy a creative
longing to write and to dig in the dirt. |

A note
from Christine:
I always go back and read what I wrote the previous
month to make sure I'm not being redundant. (In case The
Department of Redundancy Department is checking our newsletter.)
It's been a big month. A day after I wrote that
note I embarked on a new journey as Executive Director of
Swan Songs - on a part time,
trial basis - to give it some extra nurturing it needs and deserves.
The work is gratifying and exciting and completely connected to my
soul. I've been attending workshops to learn about grant
writing, organizing future events, building our web presence,
networking with other hospice organizations and learning a lot!
You'll be hearing more as we grow and fly.
A couple of days after that I had a health scare that
put me in the hospital for 36 hours - a "complicated migraine event"
is the official diagnosis for an episode that had a few too many
characteristics of a mini-stroke, so they slapped a hospital wrist
band on me and put me through a battery of tests. One more MRI
to go but I'm feeling good and have a new found respect for my
body's "slow down, girl" messages. Staying close to home and
quietly working on Swan Songs came at the perfect time.
Love to all,
Christine |

And
a blurb from Chris:
I had an anxiety attack last week when
I realized I was booked to play a fiddle tune (yes, on the FIDDLE)
at a show that was being taped for possible inclusion in the PBS
film "Texas Olive Trails". I hadn't picked up a fiddle in over
10 years, for very good reason...I'm not very good at it! The
kicker was not going to be the cameras, I got over that fear with
over 100 appearances on Hee Haw. No I was freaked because the
guitar player in this particular ensemble was to be Grammy award
winning flatpicker Dan Crary.
Fortunately I was also playing the accordion, dobro and mandolin on
the show, which are all more comfortable in my hands.
In the end, it all came out okay, and was a fun gig.

See you at the gig.
