Albert and Gage e-Newsletter March 2009

This month's newsletter arrives a little late, but it has been crafted on the road in the beautiful town of Sachsenheim, Germany, located between Frankfurt and Munich.  We arrived yesterday morning safe and sound on American Airlines, and were met at the airport by good friend and European Manager/Agent Karl Heinz Siber, who had left Sachsenheim at 4 am by train to meet us and help us get our rental van.  After a breakfast of incredible Brezeln and cold cuts we napped the afternoon away to awake to a feast of Käsespätzle and Salat, mit Rotwein, of course.  We'll be here through the 15th of March and are looking forward to seeing our German and Swiss friends, family and fans.

Dakota Lullaby

We're excited to announce the upcoming release of
Albert and Gage - "Dakota Lullaby" The Songs of Tom Peterson
Cover painting by Jim "Geier" Stevens, poem by Jack Kreitzer, photography by Terry Smith, with an inside panorama of "The Little Brown Church" just west of Hayes, South Dakota photographed by Chris Gage.

Tom is an old friend from Sioux Falls, South Dakota who had a dozen beautiful songs in his pocket that we simply had to record.  The CD features a wonderful array of musicians such as Kenny Putnam, Boyd Bristow, Lloyd Maines, Mike Stevens, Michael Austin, John Mills, David Carroll, Paul Pearcy and Glenn Fukunaga.

A note from Christine:

I just slept ten hours, our first night here in Sachsenheim.  I woke up at 6 AM and Chris was not in bed; my groggy, jet lagged brain thought - "I bet he's up working on the newsletter".  I was right.  It was hard for us to leave town without getting this done, but we simply ran out of time.  February was one of the most jam packed months of our lives - getting the new record complete, preparing our business taxes, Chris mixed the new Steve Brooks CD, he started a record for a new artist - Jody Mills, I am booking dates for upcoming CD releases.  I love the internet because we are able to create and send this to you from Deutchland, so we don't break our monthly ritual!
It feels great to be here in rainy Germany.  It is cold and wet, but I don't really mind that.  The briskness invigorates me and is waking up my senses.  At home I spend so much time in the office being the administrator; when we get over here I am the singer again, especially because our wonderful German agent Karl Heinz takes care of the details.  I stare out the window as the rolling German hills pass by the van and sing my heart out on stages in old castles.  Every venue is in some amazing old building with a history that sweetens the air and the music.
Speaking of which, I think I'll go play my guitar now.

Christine

  And another from Chris:
I love these trips to Europe, and its been too long since we were here last, at least 2 and a half years.  It's a culture shock to have a Salt Lick breakfast taco at the airport in Austin, fly all day and through a very short night, and arrive in Germany to have coffee and a Berliner at the airport in Frankfurt!  (As you can see, my touring experience revolves around the food).  It is a special treat to visit our friends Karl Heinz and Anneli who treat us with such fine hospitality, and it's a joy to perform for folks who have been coming to see us for 10 years and wish we would come more often.
I've been collecting kitchen tools and gadgets for years from Germany.  The brand is WMF and there's always one new tool for me to take home and add to my hanging collection.  In Sachsenheim there's a store called Seyfang and I'll be going there today or tomorrow to scope out the latest offerings.  It's a good chance to practice my German as well, which is quite out of shape.
I'll be taking a lot of photos, as will David Carroll who's here with us to play upright bass.  In the meantime, there's a photo tour at our website from our last trip over that started with Slaid Cleaves in Scotland and ended up here.
Ciao!  See you at the gig!

Chris
