Albert and Gage e-Newsletter November 2009
Greetings from the MoonHouse in beautiful Austin, Texas, where
the heat has subsided and the salad bar (lettuce, chard, onions, spinach and
radishes) is sprouting in the back yard. The drought has ended in a big
way, the skeeters are out, the doors are open and the air conditioning is OFF.
We made it through another month of self employment with only a few scratches
and dents and are heading into November with our heads held high. A
million thanks to you 'patrons of the arts' who came to our shows in San Angelo,
El Paso, Tularosa, Crockett, Houston and Austin last month. YOU are the
reason we do this.
We're staying close to home this month, playing a few benefits
around town, a show up at Sun City in Georgetown TX, and Christine brings her
French music to the Westgate Central Market Cafe. As always, we'll be at
Donn's Depot for First Wednesday and Chris will be at the Donn's piano every
Monday night. |

Fun news for us...Jerry
Jeff Walker's new album "Moon Child" is now available
(in digital form only) on his website at
jerryjeff.com.
Chris played guitars, keyboards, accordion, mandolin,
lap steel and sang, and Christine was invited to sing a
few backing vocals and a beautiful duet feature with
Jerry Jeff of the classic Susanna Clark tune "I'll Be
Your San Antone Rose". |
| Chris is finishing up
several projects at once at MoonHouse Studio, including
BJ Searcy, Jody Mills, Bill Small and Lesli Wood.
We've got our pencils out ready to schedule the next 6
months or so...please send interested artists our way.
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

A note
from Christine:
Tomorrow is Halloween and my dad's 91st birthday -
Happy Birthday John! We weren't able to make it to Florida for
the celebration, but we do plan to head there in December.
My son Troupe's band,
SPEAK, played at
Antone's last night.
They are truly great and it's so cool to watch their music grow and
evolve. They have really found their sound. I thought
about all the times my parents flew out to New Mexico, rented a car
and followed me around to honkytonks in the mountains, sitting in a
bar from 9-1 to hear me play. Their unqualified support kept
me going and I know Troupe's dad Ernie, and Chris, both experienced
the same thing with their parents. Time for us to give back
and keep the next generation inspired.
My favorite Swan
Songs moment this past month was bringing
Jimmy LaFave to sing at
the bedside of a lovely south Austin woman.
Her husband and a handful of friends and family shared the moment
with her.
When we arrived we learned that some of Jimmy's
lyrics are inscribed in the couple's wedding bands, so we know how
much it meant to them to have him there.
Jimmy and guitarist John
Inmon poured their hearts in to the music
and I was honored to be a part of making that happen.
Meanwhile, I remain...grateful for another day.
Love, Christine |

And
a blurb from Chris:
We don't get an amazing 'blow your mind' kind of
autumn
in Texas with trees ablaze with color. I miss that, and
try to schedule some time a little further north to experience it
every year. What we do get are absolutely gorgeous days that
make you want to be outside and evenings just perfect for
candlelight dinners out on the porch. And...our kind of autumn
lasts for a long time. We've had Christmas parties that were
shirt sleeve weather. And the salad bar that grows all winter
long in the raised beds out back is to die for. You just grab
a bowl and a pair of scissors and off you go.
We do get a couple of frosts after the year's end, and
we have to bring in the tropical plants but all in all it stays
quite nice from here on in. The heat and drought this year
were about the worst I've ever experienced. 2 months straight
of 105 degree weather? Whew....
I'm enjoying my shows with
Jerry Jeff Walker.
There's not many, but they're a lot of fun and the music is
infectious. "Wo wo I love Sangria Wine...Aye yai yai, Katy,
shades of red and blue...I wanna go home with the armadillo..."
I've heard this material most of my life. They're making a
documentary on him as we speak...there's a teaser video up on
youtube of a concert we did on the 4th of July. Watch it
here if
you'd like.
See you at the gig.
