November 2010
Greetings from the MoonHouse in lovely south
Austin, Texas

|
We are
happy to be back in Texas and also had a great time
opening for Jerry Jeff at the wonderful listening room,
The Birchmere, in Alexandria, Virginia last Friday.
We've been in England, Germany, Switzerland, France and
Austria. From the Alps to DC - music is a great vehicle.
There are two new photo tours at the website, including
pics from the dedication of the memorial to Christine's
uncle in Wangford, England.
We'll be
close to the house for the rest of November, and in
December we will be part of the wonderful Armadillo
Christmas Bazaar again and also play a new (for us)
house concert in New Braunfels, not to mention a
Christmas show at Camp Street Cafe in Crockett, Texas.
Thanks as always for supporting us.

MoonHouse Studio
was filled with the sounds of a beautiful Sara Hickman
this month - "Take Me with You" - recorded by Albert and
Gage for Sara's upcoming compilation CD,
"Best of Times." The proceeds will benefit Theatre
Action Project, an Austin, TX based nonprofit that
brings arts programs back into schools. 35 artists
are covering Sara's songs for this very worthwhile
project and you can support it by following the link

The TCA provides grants to arts presenters, schools,
libraries, theaters and other non-profits throughout
Texas to help with the cost of bringing in artists from
the roster. |
A reminder that
Christine Albert's French Show has been approved
for inclusion on the new
Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) Texas Touring Roster
for the Sept 2010 - August 2012 season. So, if you know of a
school, non-profit arts organization (grants are not
available for fundraising events), etc that would like to host Ms.
Albert's French Show, please keep this in mind. The deadline for
Arts Respond Performance Support Grants performances
occurring December 15, 2010 - March 14, 2011 is November
1, 2011. (Insider tip - you can also apply for funding
for an A&G show through Christine's account, since
Christine is the Albert in Albert and Gage!)
Christine and Professor Jacki Thomas of Texas A&M -
Kingsville are developing listening comprehension
exercises as a companion to the Texafrance music -
perfect for the classroom or for individuals learning
French on their own. More soon about "Texafrance -
Ecoutez!"

longing to write and to dig in the dirt. |

A note
from Christine:
It's been a busy time playing catch up after our
trip to Europe. We recorded a new song for a Sara Hickman
compilation, moved Chris's mom to a new place and found, purchased
and moved a grand piano into our studio. Last weekend we flew to
Baltimore to play with Jerry Jeff at the esteemed listening room,
The Birchmere. We're also doing a major purge of all of our storage,
living and recording spaces in preparation for a huge garage sale
this weekend. We don't let the grass grow beneath our wheels but the
newsletter is a bit late because of all of this!
The dedication ceremony (check out Chris's photo tour)
for the memorial to my Uncle Dick and Lt. Roger Phillips was a once
in a lifetime, magical, moving, awe inspiring event. The village of
Wangford, England welcomed us with open arms and we had a private
tour of the Holton Airfield Museum in Halesworth, learning about all
of the units that were stationed there during the war. We saw
memorabilia and heard stories about the war years and beyond. At the
dedication I spoke, we sang "Wings of War" and my sister Susan read
a poem written by my uncle's best friend, John A. Aranyos, a
lifelong flyer who flew 82 combat missions over Europe during WWII.
As Susan read his words, a WWII era Mustang P-51 flew over. Our
hosts had arranged a surprise flyover and it occurred at the perfect
moment as Susan read:
"...Perhaps
He saw the silvery sheen
Of your
wings as you did fly...."
We found out a few days later that Mr. Aranyos died in
Pennsylvania on October 9, the very day the ceremony took place.
Another synchronistic piece in this mystical puzzle.
I'll spend time in LA this month for a Trustee meeting;
then I'm looking forward to the holidays and being home.
Love to all,
Christine |

And
a blurb from Chris:
Christine gave you a lot of the news.
Except that I lucked upon a grand piano at the Texas State Surplus
Warehouse in Austin. I check it out occasionally just looking
for Swiss army knives and Leatherman's and office chairs...thrift
store crap. It's my hobby. Anyway, nestled among the
office chairs was a 7 foot Baldwin grand piano with the lid up.
I ended up playing for a while, getting the warehouse workers
dancing and finally making an offer that I thought they'd refuse.
They didn't! It's ours and it's already in position at the
studio.
One problem. We already own a beautiful 6'8"
Bechstein grand built in Berlin in 1897. An absolutely
gorgeous instrument with a voice of it's own, just not as flexible
and capable for the studio environment as the Baldwin.
So....who'll buy our Bechstein? We haven't posted
it anywhere, we're just spreading the word amongst family and
friends. It holds a tune perfectly, has appeared on our last 3
CDs, is a beautiful sight to see and is quite the conversation
piece. We bought it from a wonderful couple who had owned it
lovingly for 50 years prior. It needs a good home, and is
priced reasonably. Please write to me
here if you know anybody interested.

1897 Bechstein.
See you at the gig.
