| MoonHouse Studio
has been seeing some soulful action lately. Cowboy
Johnson and Chris decided that one of his songs needed a
little gospel choir going on, so we recruited the
talents of Waylon Payne, Craig Calvert, Leanne Atherton,
Amanda Pearcy, Michael Austin and Jeff Tveraas. We
raised the roof, and the results will be available in
the next couple months. The studio has its own website
as well...

The TCA provides grants to arts presenters, schools,
libraries, theaters and other non-profits throughout
Texas to help with the cost of bringing in artists from
the roster. |
We are very proud that
Christine Albert's French Show has been approved
for inclusion on the new
Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) Texas Touring Roster
for the Sept 2010 - August 2012 season. So, if you know of a
school, non-profit, etc that would like to host Ms.
Albert's French Show, please keep this in mind.
The deadline for
Arts Respond Performance Support Grants performances
occurring December 15, 2010 - March 14, 2011 is November
1, 2011. (Insider tip - you can also apply for funding
for an A&G show through Christine's account, since
Christine is the Albert in Albert and Gage!)

Check out Christine's
blog - "As Grows the Garden"
an experiment in making a commitment to
something for no other reason than to satisfy a creative
longing to write and to dig in the dirt.

promise to get back out there!) |

A note
from Christine:
Yes, it's been yet another big month for us! I am
establishing some new rhythms with my increased commitment to Swan
Songs and having Darleen close by. I'm learning to rearrange
my days a bit to make time for visits with her and taking care of
the business of Swan Songs. You notice the newsletter is a bit
late!
I've also been busy dealing with work permits and
travel plans for the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Austria next
month. We're so excited to meet everyone in Wangford, England
and to be a part of the dedication of my uncle's memorial there.
My oldest sister, Susan, is coming along so our family will be well
represented. Chris and I will also get to spend time with my
cousins in Bern, one of the best perks of our European tours (that
and the old friends we see, the beauty and the food!)
I encourage everyone who can to consider attending the
Swan Songs Song Circle on Sunday, September 19 at Artz in Austin.
It will be an intimate in-the-round format and I will be sitting
with the artists and visiting with them about their particular Swan
Songs concerts. Each one is as unique as the varied styles of
music represented here (folk, country, choral, Irish) and there have
been some profound moments. I look forward to hearing the
artist's perspective on what these concerts mean. Thank you
for your continuing support of Swan Songs, and of course of Chris
and me.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the recent passing
of two dear friends.
Suzan Deaton passed away on Chris's birthday, August
13, 2010. She and her husband Charlie have been our hosts on Cape
Cod and created our wonderful gigs there over the years. She
was a true Texan who also loved New England; her spirit and
infectious love of life will stay with us forever.
Doreen Pospisol, the shining blonde angel singer who
was part of South Dakota Acoustic Christmas, slipped from this earth
on July 12, 2010. Throughout her two year journey with cancer
her heart continually opened and her faith grew stronger.
Simply said, I miss her.
Our music career brought both of these women to us...we
are grateful.
Love to all,
Christine |

And
a blurb from Chris:
Whew, we got my mom Darleen moved to
Texas, thanks to my sister and her husband. Not an easy task,
even for a youngster to fly from Pierre, South Dakota to Texas.
The airport in Pierre is a tiny strip with only the smallest of
puddle jumpers landing. (I was fogged in one morning and told
that the next flight would be the same time the next morning).
There's no breezeway or wheelchair access, so
apparently one of the nice ladies from
Great Lakes Air just ran
out there and carried her up the steps! Thank you, dear.
I know, I'm supposed to send chocolate....
Anyway, she's here, and adjusting pretty darn well.
Her memory is certainly failing, although there are glimpses of
incredible long term memory that continue to pop out and amaze us.
Her home is called Arveda, and
it's a cutting edge facility for Alzheimer's and dementia patients.
Their plan is to keep the residents busy, keep their minds working,
play word games, memory games, whatever. Boy, did this tick my
mother off at first! She wanted to go back to the recliner in
the corner of the assisted living place she just left, because they
would leave her alone! At the same time, of course, she says
"please don't leave me alone!" Ah, the wonder.
She'll do okay, in fact it's already started to get
better and she's participating willfully. I think she saves
the complaints for the son that kidnapped her. That would be
me. (Thanks for your help, Christine). The big Mom-hugs
make it all worthwhile.

Darleen Gage
another Texas transplant
from South Dakota.
See you at the gig.
